About Dr. Esther Cole
I am HCPC registered, BPS accredited and a professionally insured Clinical Psychologist working in the NHS and private practice. I have worked in multi-disciplinary teams with clients with a range of mental and physical health, neurological conditions, challenging behaviour and cognitive problems, with very positive results since 2008 (qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2013).
I tailor make all therapies to the person, child, young person or organisation’s needs and draw on the best available evidence. This could mean offering a combination of different therapies such as CBT, systemic and narrative approaches or integrating several therapeutic methods until we feel we are making progress.

Low Self-Esteem and Confidence Therapy | Lifespan Psychology
Confidence Therapy for Low Self-Esteem at Lifespan Psychology
Everyone experiences moments of self-doubt, but when negative thoughts about yourself become persistent and limiting, it may be a sign of low self-esteem. At Lifespan Psychology, we understand how low self-worth can affect every part of life — from relationships and work to your ability to make decisions and feel good about who you are.
We offer compassionate, evidence-based confidence therapy designed to help you challenge unhelpful beliefs, strengthen your self-image, and feel more confident in yourself and your abilities.
What Is Low Self-Esteem?
Low self-esteem is characterised by a consistently negative view of yourself. You may find it difficult to accept praise, constantly compare yourself to others, or feel undeserving of happiness or success. Common signs include:
-
Excessive self-criticism
-
Fear of failure or rejection
-
Difficulty setting boundaries
-
Avoiding challenges or opportunities
-
Struggling with assertiveness or self-expression
These thoughts and behaviours often stem from past experiences, such as criticism, bullying, or emotionally difficult relationships — but they can be changed with the right support.
How to Build Self-Esteem in Adults
One of the most common questions we hear is: “How do you build self-esteem in adults?” The truth is, self-esteem is not fixed — it can be strengthened through awareness, guided reflection, and therapeutic tools that help you develop a healthier relationship with yourself.
